Does false advertising work?
If you’ve read my previous posts you know that I really hate B&S, especially when it comes to false advertising and legitimacy of photographs. Well, I was browsing the recent reviews and I came across this:
The woman that arrived was a good bit heavier than the picture. It's either not her or else an old pic. The girl that came over also wore a blond wig to resemble the picture.
I mean, are you kidding me? She wore a wig? I find that very insulting. It’s like advertising that you’re selling a Porsche and then delivering a Buik with the Porsche shield taped to the hood. But what really irks me is that the scam apparently worked:
It was basic bait and switch. She was nice and not horrible looking so I offered 200 rather than the 300 she asked for. She said ok.
So, because she was nice, she got a sale out of falsely advertising her product. Hey, if the review writer had a good time, that's cool. I'm not judging him - plus he wrote a fair review and rated accordingly so he's a stand-up guy. But It just gets to me that the provider is actually making money working this wig game.
Am I overreacting by being upset by this?

After reading a lot on boards like this I think that unfortunately, yes, B&S works.
And yes, you're right to be upset. I hate it, too.
There are a lot of guys who don't mind that much, and others who are just scared of making the girl angry (after all, she might be crazy and start causing all kinds of trouble).
I just tell myself how much it must suck for the girl... I mean, how miserable must your life be if you constantly rip people off? It's so much nicer to make somebody happy... and it feels really good when someone says "Your pics don't do you justice, you're so much more beautiful than I thought."
I think a lot of the B&S is done because the girl is in some kind of desperate situation.

To me that's the most important thing. If the guy decided to go for it anyway, more power to him- but at least he gave her a proper review.
Gals that do the bait and switch do not stay around long -

Of course it works , I personally would NEVER do that bc I've been around so long it would be career suicide.
I agree B&S does not stick around for long at least under the same name or phone number.
I hate it too..
The biggest thing I find is providers hiding there age. Usually almost have to add five years to there posted ad to be close. What is funny is some guys like older women so there may be no need to hide the age. But I was with a provider who I thought was about 7 years younger and looked it, and told me in the end she was 4 years older then me. I had no issue with that.
Wow what a age delta. Some can pull it off wonderfully.
You have the right to be upset...
but i'm very surpised, you/he still went ahead with everything..
Most hobbist. i've ran into, dont support providers who advertise fake pics....

yeah judging age is almost impossible for me, i just figure if they advertise late 20s or mid 30s they arent younger then that lol.
-I'm proud to say my true age I just never show my face too much on ads,
I always laugh when I see providers around saying that they're 28 for the past 4 yrs then they go back in time and say they're 22. hahahaha. Must be doing well since they can afford time machines ....LOL jk

This is my point with not giving personal information out whether you are a guy or a lady. It allows either party to walk with no possibility of retalliation. How does a guy turn and walk if he has given out his real name, home address and work information and real pictures of himself? Many legit provider have reviews that are recent but photos that are 10 yrs old or more and fib when giving their age. A gentleman never asks a ladies age, but he sure can tell the difference between a 25 and 40 year old lady.

let's hope so...
If it didn't work there wouldn't be so many people doing it. It's been going on since the days of print ads in the classifieds section.
Not gonna name names nor locations. But ran into a B&S situation last night. Promised provider never showed up but her "friend" did -- cute, nice, fun, etc . . . . Don't get me wrong. But this isn't how to build and maintain a reputation as an independent provider. Gotta deliver as promised. I uphold my end of the deal, you uphold yours (no pun intended). Anyway, I don't know wehther this B&S was preplanned or whether one of the girls scammed her colleague claiming that I "cancelled" (which I didn't). Still trying to get to the bottom of it. Until I get a satisfactory response, full explanation, an apology, and probably some sort of special future arrangement with the PROMISED provider, I can't recommend. I'm too classy to name names or locations. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. Double-check everything and take nothing for granted.
Sirius Why try to "get to the bottom of it" If they scammed you the first time You don't think they will again What is the ole saying screw me once shame on you Screw me twice shame on me... I would do a posting in your local area and prewarn your local hobbyist that they are B&S... and move one Not all providers do this... Sorry about your experience.....

Amsterdam: Thank you for the suggestion. I am not ready to go "there" yet. This situation did not take place near my home area, and the providers are independents who travel. Nothing against traveling providers. But I don't want to name any names without giving them a full chance to explain things to ME. If they do not, then I owe it to all of you to make you aware. A real shame, too, 'cause the "adverstised" girl is absolutely a fox and IS for real -- I just think somebody is playing games (and not nice ones either).
i never see travelers myself. if they arent local then they dont need my business.

It's also difficult to tell whether they are actually a traveler or just a B&S specialist with a brand new phone number. I'd see a visiting provider if they have an ample track record myself.
Personally, I make a distinction between travelers and ladies on a routine circuit. After regular return visits, IMO, the lady is a de facto local. Otherwise - I too am not a fan of "traveling" ladies - higher risk of B&S, upsell or worse. I also am bemused by some touring ladies whose rates are nowhere near in line with the accepted local rates for the services they provide.
Of course, there are some ladies for whom I would make exception should they ever decide to tour my way. (Pretty sure they know who they are too!)

Unfortunately, I know a lot of gentlemen who refuse to name names in situations like these. My opinion is that, in most situations, letting your peers know about the B&S scams that are out there is a good thing to do. The scammers will just pull it again on another unsuspecting hobbyist if they're not exposed.

Tangent thought and this is directed to Gary - Sure would be nice if NR had a specific section devoted to just scam alert providers. No details need be given, just a quick reference area where one could look up name, location, website or phone.
I understand it could be a double edge sword, but for NR VIP it would be another reason to have VIP.
Other sites I have seen are too geographic focused on such information, and really don't offer multiple search criteria. Googling phone numbers has largely been negated by the disposable phone.
As I mentioned, I don't see the traveling ladies in my home city, but perusal gets a little more difficult when I am the one traveling in a new area. Just a thought, probably not even half-baked at that.

You really should let people know about this. I don't see how they could possibly provide an explanations that would exclude a B&S. Maybe wait until you've left the area!
I've been following this discussion for a while and here are my two cents.
As provider, I prefer repeat dates to new ones.
Screening is done and over with, there is certain familiarity that makes both people more relaxed, plus there is added benefit of being able to freely discuss what Gentleman likes and dislikes as well as exploration of any fantasy he may wish to pursue.
So while false advertisement may bring in short term results, it is counter productive in the long term.
So far I guess it has worked because I am still to hear "an you are ....?" when I knock on a door
