Wow. You know, that's something to think about.

I notice that a lot of guys use handles that are somewhat crude. When I'm in a forum and I see some guy who goes by "wifebeater" or something similar, it makes me wonder if a provider thinks twice before getting together with the guy.

I never respond to any stupid handles or emails with no point .
Keep in mind I am a MASSAGE provider
I make that very clear whenever I advertise that I do not offer FS.

Heres one: LEnnnie0236@aol :
He asks me:
what type of services do you offer?
What's the cost for straight sex, I have $60 will that do?
followed by him asking: You aren't Law enforcement are you?

Speaking of emails, how many emails would you say you receive that are inappropriate? A divorced friend of mine told me that she tried posting CL personals ad awhile back and that she received hundreds of "cock shots". Curious if providers received the same high volume?

Quite few "If that is what you want to call them" By the size and the angle I figure it is young kids If it is an attachment I never open.... And if they any kind of picture other than a face shot I don't reply Tell your friend to join Singlesdate.net...I think that was the name... When I was looking to date I did great on that site...

I think personal's ads get more weird answers, but craigslist is always good for that kind of stuff.

Since I don't advertise on other sites than eros anymore, I haven't gotten anything weird.

I used to include my e-mail address as well as my phone number. Recently I took my e-mail address off my postings as I found out anyone can find out where you live through google earth just by using your e-mail address. I never like to seal the deal just via e-mail anyway, I like to talk to a person over the phone to get a feel for them. Your thoughts?

I certainly am no techie by any means and I finally figured out that CDR tray was not intended as a coffee cup holder......but, I would appreciate confirmation on the statement above that a specific geographic location can be found with just an email address using google earth. Don't want to get into whether it is right of wrong - just if it is possible?

And Jaclyn, I really like to start with email, but always end up with a phone call before seeing a lady for the first time. So, I prefer to have the email on the ad postings - but I can see your concern.

It only works that way if you put YOUR REAL location in when you set up the account.
who does that ? I never have or will.
it does not show your ACTUAL address i;e home etc, just a general location unless you set it to show that way.
Just like google buzz, it DOES NOT show all of your contacts etc to be seen by others unless you want it to be that way.
It's like twitter except more basic so don't fret too much.

I had two clients tell me that before seeing me they googled my e-mail address and found out where I lived and other info. Yes, I just used my e-mail address that I had for years. You may call that stupid, I just call not knowing that could be done, honestly the thought just never occured to me. Now, how do I set up another e-mail address under a false location? I recently set up a gmail acct. not for advertising, and I do not recall them asking me for a location. Is my location just programmed into my computer. I am grateful this was pointed out to me. Any help on this would be appreciated as I think it is good to have something other than just a phone number.

you can get an actual address from an email addy however you would have needed to tie the two
together recently enough for it to be in googles search cache. i would assume you are since ive gotten some interesting results by dropping emails into earth at times.

Jaclyn - don't feel stupid, cuz if you do, you are calling me stupid as well. i.e. - my thinking and understanding was exactly the same as yours.

Moebius, or any of you other more tech savvy folk, I would really appreciate a PM or a post explaining this to me in greater detail. I am missing the connection of "tying" the two together as I just don't recall ever getting asked for physical geographic information when I generated my email addresses.

I am not "fretting" it, but I would like to at least understand it.

Thanks for the patience and education on this one.

I second that motion as I want to add an e-mail address but not connected to me and I am not tech savvy either! Coyote, I do not feel stupid just learning something new everyday! If someone PM's you please let me know how to do this. Smiling

Just an addendum to my above message, I my accounts must be tied together because I have tried both my aol and yahoo account and my clients says I can be tracked on both so I guess my next question is how do you separate them because if I open a new account it will just be tied in with the rest until I solve this problem.

It's pretty simple, just sign up for a gmail or yahoo account and enter completely false information. Wrong name, wrong address etc... If you are really worried about your location (it won't be displayed publicy) access the internet using a proxy server.

I was gonna say that john john.
Yes a 3rd party proxy server for your site as well is a good idea.
should Get a hushmail or other disposable for an email client .
My opinion is if I have a google stalker informing me of this info, I just don't see them anymore,
in fact Me thinks normal people don't sit and do that all day,
let alone tell somebody they did that to them.
to each their own but, that just irks me to death for some reason.

You can contact them to get that info removed too if you don't want to do all that work Smiling
they are pretty fast at responding if it's a safety issue

Perhaps I am not being clear as to why this is confusing me....I just checked again on signing up for a yahoo account. Almost certain that the same setup exists for gmail. At no time was I asked for geographic information. What the heck am I missing? Where is the connection that ties this to a physical address? Y'all are making me feel really naive.

Coyote, The same thing happened to me when I tried. We have to find out how to separate the accounts so we can input different info. Until I find that out I am stuck!

My sources say It can be the IPaddy it comes from.
I change machines & internet service often so I'm not worried too much.

IPADDY - what is that? Sonds like some new burger on the menu at McDonalds in honor of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day.

Glad at least someone got the humor in my attempt. My apologies though as I am sure that stung a little. Smiling

However, I really am quite serious about being confused on the geographic tie-in. I do maintain a hobby phone and hobby email....and I have never had an issue, but the location tie-in has surprised/confused me. I guess it is time to get with these modern times...feel like I am still driving a Model-T in a Ferrari world (hell, bet that analogy is even out-dated.)

Well when someone figures out how to undo the geographic tie-in or a way I can put in false info with the set up I have please let me know.

Purely coincidental - I had to establish another gmail account for my work. We changed servers and are experiencing temporary issues with the Contact Us links off our website. Long story short - during the process of creating a new gmail addy, I saw the linkage to another addy as a question in the setup process. I put in a bogus email addy and was able to continue signing up. So, as someone (not sure if it was V, JJ or Moebius) said earlier in this thread - you enter in some fictitious info during sign up and still generate a valid email addy. You can PM me Jaclyn if you still have questions as I literally just did this.

Sorry to go so far OT in this thread, but I really do appreciate the input!

That sounds right. What you have to understand is that if you use the email address to post something, like a couch in CL, the next time someone googles your email address, they will find that post along with everything else you've posted on the internet mentioning that email address. In my researching providers, I often find a CL or BP ad for their services along with another CL ad they've posted about renting a room or selling an old TV. Listen, this goes for both providers and hobbyists, only use your hobby/provider email addy for providing and hobbying.

I do not want to change servers and I already have an existing gmail account. So do I just sign up for another one and look for some link?

Oh and this was an classic I got an email 2 weeks into the biz it was leo420@hotmail.com
Come on get real cop and pot gonna jump on that one Jawdropping!

Wow. You know, that's something to think about.

I notice that a lot of guys use handles that are somewhat crude. When I'm in a forum and I see some guy who goes by "wifebeater" or something similar, it makes me wonder if a provider thinks twice before getting together with the guy.

your handle is enough to get you thrown in my reject pile.
not just the obvious ones but i also reject anything that refers to fire or money in the handle.
i'm not going to say why because i don't know how to explain it without offending people who shouldn't get offended but will anyway.
