I'm not sure if anyone else saw the article in the Huffington Post today in which five "sexperts" make their predictions about how sex will be different in 2009. I've included the link at the bottom of the post for those of you who are interested in reading the whole thing but what caught my eye was the following:

3. You're going to be paying a lot less for it.
Nobody's going to put call girls in a higher tax bracket this year. With a tanking economy, streetwalkers, pole dancers and gold diggers alike are going to have to give it up for less. So are the online dating sites, as they compete with free sites like Plentyoffish.com, Okcupid.com, and DateHookUp.com. It's like they've been working a corner for years and now some hussy's going to do the job for free. Oh, my.

I believe there is a thread on this forum where others mention that the prices could come down and here is yet another person predicting the same thing. With less disposable income it only seems natural that the price for things will come down. Anyone feel otherwise? Bring on the Recession Specials ladies;)

Here's the link to the story:

I think that the high end of the spectrum is still going to be able to charge whatever they want to but the low- to mid-range providers are probably going to feel the pinch. Not only will there be less customers but there will also probably be new providers entering the market after losing their jobs. While I haven't been hit hard by the crisis, I have been putting away more money than I did in the past and I'd assume there are many others out there like me.

I agree High_Roller, especially since there's some press that suggests more women will get involved in sex work this year. The high supply might drive prices down for the "average" hobbyist.

If more providers become available..I would think there would be more undercutting prices....The ones that I have met are pretty savvy and are checking out the competition....The last one I had a visit with...was a shark.....If the market has a influx....Then I will have to expand my research....

I think you may get specials being run on occasion but unless the economy gets REALLY bad I would expect prices to stay more or less the same. Basic laws of economics would indicate otherwise but I don't think the hobby seems to be governed by those. Since I started hobbying about 20 years ago, the prices don't seem to have changed much at all especially with mid-range providers whom I tend to frequent most. I think that in most cases women become providers because they can earn a very nice income and that if the nice income is removed from the equation, then they would probably choose a different profession. Providing is attractive because there is so much money involved. The only exception to the above may be in the low range SW-type providers who can't find a job anywhere else and will probably have to lower their prices to put food on the table.

Bump...

So, one and a half months into the new year, what's the verdict thus far? Have prices come down or gone up? Are there a higher volume of providers?

With the economy showing signs of weakness since last year some places do have specials on their entrance fee....$10 or $15 off half or hourly rate. But the extra fees tend to stay the same. My last visit in Studio City back in April of 08 I paid #30 for half hour, but the provider was not coming down on her share for the extra services.

Yeah, it would seem like the MP's and agencies are more willing to lower prices than the providers are which shouldn't really come as a surprise. I think most providers have a rate they charge which won't fall as if it did, they would stop providing. The businesses will do what businesses do when times are tough, lower prices and offer specials to attract more customers by offer 2x1 massages etc..

I haven't really noticed much of a difference at all. It's possible that there are more providers offering quickie specials on CL but I'm not sure whether that has to do with the economy or whether it is just a general trend.

Prices seem to be holding steady but access is a lot better. What I am seeing is that I can get more same day and even same hour appointments with some hot providers that use to be in high demand.

I've noticed easier booking too lately. It's nice to know that there are benefits to a slumping economy... Cool
