Perhaps the better question is why not hobby? We are men and we simply weren't built to have sex with the same woman for our entire lives. Therefore, I agree with your reasons above and would add:

All of the above are excellent reasons to hobby. Anyone remember what Charlie Sheen said when he got caught for hobbying? "I pay them to not be there in the morning"!! While that one isn't really my reason, I bet a lot of single hobbyists would say that. I would also add: To have sex with someone who does more than just lie on her back with her legs spread!

I hobby because for health reasons my wife has trouble with intercourse. I sometimes feel a bit bad about doing it but the fact of the matter is that I'm still pretty young and I can't imagine a life of celibacy...I would never leave my wife so this is the best alternative for me.

Women seem to stop giving blowjobs when they get a ring on their finger which I'm sure most of the guys on this board could attest to. As for cheating, I think men probably do have more of an evolutionary excuse than women do. Back when we were learning to stand upright and our survival as a species was by no means a guarantee, the female would have had an incentive to find a man who would have her child, protect her, and bring her meat. Since the woman could only carry the child of one man at a time, monogamy made the most sense. Males, on the other hand, did all they could to spread their genes as far as possible and the easiest way to do this was by knocking up as many women as they could... Can't argue with evolution my dear:)

Actually, as America gets closer to equality between the sexes a new trend has arose, Women cheating on guys! I read an article the other day that said women are just about as likely to cheat as a guy. Which with my experience I would have to agree on that. Though I'm not bitter, I'm pretty open minded about sex, but my problem is they never made clear where I stood.

And my final comment for this post. Finances. A point was brought up on a radio show in Orlando I heard, that a guy who was a connoisseur of providers was asked why shell out the $100-$300 instead of finding a GF. His answer was the provider was cheaper. Going to a provider regularly got him the action he wanted without having to pay for dates, gifts and other things he had to cough cash up with his previous GFs. He did the math and it ended up being cheaper. Though I think getting a GF merely for sex is demeaning, that's what fuck buddies are for. The sex would be a bonus.

Trend was the term used in the magazine. I wouldn't have any trouble believing it was nothing new.
