Stripping & the Economy

We’ve made mention more than once now that, as the world economy sours and we all spiral towards an apparently epic bout of decrepit poverty that will leave us all eating root vegetables and drinking ditch water, some women are shying away from their straight laced “regular’ jobs and getting into escorting. However, as you may suspect, when you take a university educated woman with a degree who had previously been working in an office where she wore sensible business suits every day and take her job away, 9 times out of 10 when given the option she’s not going to immediately jump on sex as a way to pay her bills. For a lot of people it’s just not kosher. However, easier to swallow than sex for money (or a stranger’s wang) is simply stripping. It’s still lucrative as hell but requires a smaller leap to the dark side for many women.

The entire adult industry, as it happens, is now booming while the rest of the economy sinks into the spunky murk it leaves in its wake. The reason for this, of course, is because above all else people dig smut. You can sit down with your friends, family and clergy and debate what things are valued by all people above all else and you may get God, family, money, security, happiness and all manner of other cuddly answers to choose from but it’s really irrefutable that sex has to be on that list. And high on the list. In a time when no one has any money to spare, jobs are being lost like socks in the wash and apparently an entire assload of women are being forced to work in porn and in strip clubs, the fact they can find work without a problem is those places speaks volumes. In a year we may not be able to pay rent or buy groceries but goddamn it, we’re still willing to pay to look at tits.

Where previously a lot of clubs could put out an ad looking for new dancers and get a handful of good replies, now ads on Craiglist for dancers are getting 80+ responses per day from girls willing to peel for a few bucks. And the money is still as good as ever. Upscale clubs still see girls making a couple thousand a night on really good nights. In a year these girls can make as much as $300,000 which certainly beats the hell out of working for AIG (at least now).

At some clubs in New York, around 20 to 30 women a week or coming in looking for work, twice the number that would generally show up a year ago. The trade off for the economic problems is that clubs are seeing a real decrease in high rollers, guys popping in with a few thousand dollars to burn in one night aren’t as common anymore. However, enough guys with just a couple hundred still makes any night a good one for the girls.

While this is all fine and good for the girls involved, there’s an upshot for you the customer as well. Knowing as you now do that there are not only an abundance of new and inexperienced girls working the clubs, you’re also well aware they’re in much stiffer competition for a share of fewer dollars. Which is to say the mileage for your lap dance dollar just skyrocketed as girls are going to have to put on a far better show if they want to empty your wallet when faced with such stiff competition and guys who aren’t as eager to part with those dollars any more. So celebrate the recession guys, just make sure you celebrate in style at the club and don’t order too many overpriced drinks.
